The fact of the matter is, hundreds of thousands of women consented to treatment by way of vaginal mesh implants. But the Food and Drug Administration has stated, point blank, “it is not clear that transvaginal POP repair with mesh is more effective than traditional non-mesh repair in all patients with POP.”

Why then were these products ever even introduced? A cynic would suspect the usual suspect: corporate profits. Would it be the first time a corporation has sacrificed medical ethics to the greater power of Wall Street quarterlies. Why else would the FDA have stated that mesh treatment “may expose patients to greater risk.” ?

The fallout from these implants is ugly – the mesh can cut into the vaginal walls and effect other organs just one year after the surgery. The implants can tighten, shift around, and actually intrude into the canal. Complaints from women who had these implants include:

  1. erosion up to and including exposure or extrusion of the mesh through the vaginal tissue;
  1. perforation of organs and vessels;
  2. pain and problems with ambulation;
  3. pressure;
  4. POP recurrence;
  5. discharge and infection;
  6. bleeding;
  7. scarring and shortening;
  8. urinary complications.

Unsuspecting women have been hindered in all manner of fashions – difficulty sitting, walking, and, of course, sexual intercourse.

All of these, obviously, have a huge psychological impact on women, and this is an element not to be discounted from the measure of a patient’s damages. At Traywick & Traywick, we get it, and your suffering will not be sold short.

Do not expect participation as a member of a huge class action to make you whole. The mechanics of a class action do not benefit a party with severe damages arising from use of the mesh. If your damages are real, your suit should be brought as an individual, not as a member of a class.
